A test in which a probe changes the pressure within the ear canal and measures how well the eardrum moves in response to the pressure. The purpose of tympanometry is to determine how well the middle ear is functioning and the mobility of the eardrum. Things like Eustachian tube dysfunction, a perforated ear drum, occluding ear wax, “fluid” in the middle ear, or issues with the middle ear bones can be discovered with this evaluation.
